Self Sufficient Sharon
I'm starting my own "grow-op" in the basement. I'm going to try growing fruit and vegetables under full spectrum lighting in a large room I have downstairs (yes, the one the ghost keeps visiting).
I believe we have to take more in hand, especially us anti-vaxxers. Ivo coaxed me into buying a sewing machine and fabric, and extra pairs of shoes for the future, but what about food and money?
If I get cut off of my pension, and I'm expecting that may happen because I'm non-compliant, then I'll be left living off of book sales and personal channeling income. So a reduction in food costs would be especially welcome because that's a lot of my monthly expenses. So why not grow your own? Why not grow your own anyway?
I grew tomatos in a small space in my front porch this summer. I could get a space next door in the garden if in fact I'm still living here next summer but for now, why not get good at indoor growing?
The other thing to consider is foraging because you can get some very high nutrient foods out in nature. You can also get poisoned, so you have to study under someone experienced, I feel.

So far, I have miscellaneous pots that I've collected as gardening containers and some actual garden pots. The dollar store is very good for these things, especially in the summer.
I have ordered these things from Amazon:

ANOTHER THING MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME
Another thing my mother taught me, along with sewing, is that gardening is a useful skill to have. And frankly, it's pretty easy. Being Dutch, I grew up around her gardens so for me it doesn't seem like rocket science, and it's not.
Yes, that was one thing that the wooden shoes were used for: gardening, by the way.

USING CUTTINGS
One of the easiest fruits to grow is rhubarb, if you're into them. Rhubarb is very tart and needs a lot of sweetener to eat it. I have a plant back behind my old place that starts growing here in February and provides a lot to eat every year. All I did was take a cutting from my sister's plant, stick it in my carry on bag and then plant it in dirt when I got home. It started to root and it's been providing me with strawberry rhubarb muffins ever since. I see now that rhubarb crumble, like apple crumble, is also a dessert... hmmm.

GROWING FROM SEED
Yes, you can go to the grocery store and use the seeds from foods you buy to grow plants, of course. However in the case of GMO foods, they provide few seeds and the seeds will grow but will not bear much fruit. So avoid them. Avoid them anyway.

STORING & CANNING
Many people store foods from the harvest. Here in Ontario, ours comes early and so does Thanksgiving. I'm not much of a "storer" but I do can foods from the harvest. I don't like that canning tends to use a lot of sugar and that the foods tend to be non-organic. I'd like to move away from that.

WHAT WILL I START GROWING NOW:
I'm definitely wanting lettuce because of the salads I like to eat,
- tomatos, cherry tomatos would be easier but who knows
- spinach
- green beans
- herbs like basil

START YOUR OWN SUMMER GARDEN
I did this with neighbours a couple years ago and I grew my favourite cruciferous foods: cabbage (which grows easily), cauliflower and brussels sprouts.
